Westholme School, established in 1923, is a successful independent school located on the rural outskirts of Blackburn. The school is based across 3 sites, providing a first class education to around 800 pupils, aged 3 months – 18 years.The School is well resourced and facilities across the entire campus are extensive and stimulating, as a result of the Governors’ wise investment plan. Over the last decade over £10M has been spent on capital projects and our students benefit from the all-encompassing provision.
The school became co-educational in September 2018, although for the transitional year 2018-19, boys and girls will continue to be taught separately in Year 8 and for core subjects in Year 11. Westholme also has a co-educational Nursery and Infant School and the Junior School will be fully co-educational from September 2018.
We seek a well-qualified, dedicated and inspirational graduate to contribute to a highly committed faculty. The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive team of four full-time teaching staff, along with two technicians. It is expected they will take responsibility for the majority of Textiles teaching within the faculty and working alongside the Head of Faculty, for the further development of the subject area.
A willingness to be involved in extracurricular activities such as competitions and educational visits is essential, and other interests which are particular strengths of the successful candidate would also be welcome.
The Faculty:
The faculty teaches Art and Textiles to A Level, Food and Product Design to GCSE and Photography to A Level. In Years 7 – 9 students are taught in mixed ability groups and all study Art, Food, Textiles and Product Design on a carousel each year. All subjects are popular at GCSE with both boys and girls.The faculty is well equipped and resourced and comprises three specialist art rooms, a food room, textiles room and a workshop. A further multi-purpose room is also available for Art and Textiles classes.
It is expected that the successful candidate would wish to be involved in extracurricular activities such as competitions and educational visits. Other interests which are particular strengths of the successful candidate would be welcome. Art, Photography and Textiles are popular choices at A Level and many students go on to study design courses at university. Subjects follow the AQA specifications and there is a strong emphasis on individual practical work.
Required for September 2019. Consideration for the right candidate would be given for an earlier start.
